Application Bundle for Those with Disabilities, Including Autism

June 2014 – Sprint Good Works^SM launched their Neurodiversity ID Pack, a mobile applications collection assisting consumers with neurodevelopmental disabilities and cognitive conditions, such as autism, dyspraxia, and dyslexia. As the third largest wireless networking corporation in the U.S., Sprint is demonstrating their commitment to wireless accessibility with this collection of apps, weblinks, educational tools, developmental games for children, and support apps for parents. Some apps include: Play and Learn Languages app, ACC Autism myVoiceCommunicator app, First-Then Visual Schedule app, and My Autism Help app for special-needs parents.

Sprint to Receive Change Maker Award

February 2014 — Sprint has been selected as the recipient of the 2014 Change Maker Award. The annual award is presented by Quality Services for the Autism Community (QSAC) to recognize companies that have “made a meaningful commitment to supporting the needs of children and adults with developmental disabilities.” This year, Sprint is being honored for their accessible technology, which includes products and services such as Sprint’s ID Accessibility Packs and Accessible Education ID Pack. The ID Accessibility Packs were developed by the IDEAL Group with support from the App Factory project of the Wireless RERC.

Gary Maffei, executive director of QSAC notes, “By recognizing Sprint, QSAC hopes to encourage others to actively support Sprint and similar efforts to expand access to technology for children and adults with autism.”

Sprint Releases New Accessible Smartphone

Sprint Launches Kyocera Kona

September 2013 — Sprint has announced the release of Kyocera Kona, a new smartphone with multiple accessibility features. The compact flip phone provides users with a tactile keyboard, verbal descriptions of on-screen menus, “high-contrast user interface options,” 911 shortcuts, and “verbal translation enabling internet browsing.” The phone is also being currently offered free of charge, following a $50 mail-in rebate. Of the service, David Owens, Vice President of Product Development at Sprint, stated, “Sprint has always been dedicated to ensuring accessibility – whether it’s our award winning accessibility Sprint ID application bundles or a device like Kona providing first–of-its-kind features for the visually impaired. We are providing the product free of charge because we want anyone who has a unique need to be able to take advantage of this great new offering.”

July 2013 — In partnership with Raketu, Sprint released a new app to provide Wireless CapTel for iOS-powered devices. With the app, users with hearing loss can place a call and voice-recognition software will caption the conversation for the caller. The app works for 3G or 4G cell phones as well as Wi-Fi only devices and will deliver captions in both English and Spanish. In addition to the new app, Sprint also offers Wireless CapTel for Android devices with OS 2.2 or higher.
