Wireless RERC Comments on the Accessibility of the Nationwide EAS Test

October 2013 — The Wireless RERC filed comments in response to a Public Notice [EB Docket No. 04-296] issued by The Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau (the Bureau) of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regarding issues identified during the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on November 9, 2011. The comments filed by the Wireless RERC specifically responded to the Bureau’s request for comment on how the FCC can address the accessibility of visual text crawls accompanying EAS alerts.

Technology Transitions Policy Task Force Workshop

September 2013 – The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that the Technology Transitions Policy Task Force will host a workshop on October 15, 2013.  In March 2013, the Task Force held their first workshop to gather data on ongoing technology transitions.  The upcoming workshop will continue this effort by focusing on “the consumer and competitive impacts” of the transitions from copper networks to fiber and wireline to wireless services and specifically how these transitions may affect “residential and business consumers” when legacy services are replaced.  The workshop will
