First Technology Transitions Policy Task Force Workshop in March

February 12, 2013 — The first FCC Technology Transitions Policy Task Force workshop will be held on Monday, March 18, 2013. The Task Force was formed to recommend policies that “empower and protect consumers, promote competition, and ensure network resiliency and reliability.” The workshop will focus on transitions to new technologies including: the advancement of network protocols; the implementation of fiber networks replacing copper; and the increased use of wireless in place of wireline services.

Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council Looking for Members

February 12, 2013 — The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is to extend the Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council (CSRIC) for a fourth two-year term and is seeking nominations for membership to be submitted by March 20, 2013. The CSRIC is seeking representatives from government agencies, communications service providers, mobile technology developers, and organizations representing people with disabilities.

FCC’s Progress in the Accessibility of Advanced Communications

February 2013 — The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Fiscal Year (FY) 2012 Annual Performance Report was released in early February and summarizes the FCC’s work on accomplishing strategic goals and meeting performance commitments established in the FCC FY 2012 Annual Performance Plan.

Wireless RERC Comments on Text-to-911 Deployment

The Wireless RERC submitted reply comments in response to the Federal Communications Commission's Further Notice of Purposed Rulemaking: Facilitating the Deployment of Text-to-911 and Other Next Generation 911 Applications [PS Docket No. 11-153] and Framework for Next Generation 911 Deployment [PS Docket No. 10-255]. The Wireless RERC agreed with assertions that the regulations on the availability of text-to-911 and bounce back error messages should apply to all mobile service providers.

Recording and Reporting Accessibility Compliance

January 29, 2013 — A Public Notice [DA 13-114] was issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) reminding the telecommunications service providers and equipment manufacturers subject to Section 255, 716, or 718 of the Communications Act, that as of January 30, 2013 they are required to maintain records of meeting accessibility compliance and to file the first annual recordkeeping certification by April 1, 2013.
