Discover Wireless Accessibility!: General Disability Presentation

This presentation is part of a group of presentations given during the Wireless RERC and AT&T's consumer outreach workshop, Discover Wireless Accessibility!.  This presentation focuses on wireless accessibility features found in iOS 7 and Android 4.4 smartphones and tablets.  It provides a general overview of accessibility features for consumers covering a broad group of disabilities - blind/low vision, dexterity, deaf/hard of hearing and cognitive impairments.

Assistive and Accessible Apps

John Morris presented “Smartphone and Tablet Apps for Case Managers and Their Patients,” at the Palmetto chapter of the Case Manager Society of America meeting on March 15, 2014.  He shared information on the distinction between assistive and accessible apps and how to identify accessibility features within apps.  Additionally John highlighted and described specific apps for memory, patient and family education and way finding.  He closed with a discussion of how to evaluate apps. 9-1-1 & Alert Trends for People with Disabilities

June 2013 — Wireless RERC principal investigator, Dr. Helena Mitchell, presented 9-1-1 & Alert Trends for People with Disabilities at the National Emergency Number Associations’ (NENA) annual conference in Charlotte, North Carolina. NENA’s educational tracks, among other things, addressed NG911, accessibility, text-to-911, public outreach, and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).

CTIA Accessibility Outreach Initiative Webinar - June 13,2013

On June 13, 2013, Wireless RERC researchers Ben Lippincott and Salimah LaForce presented an overview of the Wireless RERC to industry representatives at a webinar hosted by CTIA's Accessibility Outreach Initiative (AOI).   Also discussed were services and other collaborative opportunities the RERC has available to offer CTIA member companies. Attendees included representatives from companies such as Verizon, BlackBerry, Motorola, etc.
