App Factory Releases 2014-2015 Call for Proposals Sticky

Each year, the Wireless RERC’s App Factory invites experienced organizations or individual developers based in the U.S. to submit proposals for financial support to develop assistive and/or accessibility apps for mobile platforms (e.g., Android, Blackberry 10, iOS, Windows Phone). 

Apps developed through this program include AccessNote by the American Foundation for the Blind, BrailleTouch by BrailleTech, LLC, and Sprint ID Accessibility Packs, Currency Identifier, and IDEAL Group Reader by Apps4Android.

American Association of People with Disabilities Seeking New Leadership

June 2015 - The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) is currently seeking a new President and CEO to advance attainment of the organization’s vision, “to develop the inherent power of people with disabilities to be both a political and economic force.” While they are looking for a new leader, the AAPD Board of Directors is temporarily relying on long-time disability rights advocate and former Executive Vice President, Helena Berger, as the Acting President and CEO of the organization.

Disability Research Consortium (DRC) Annual Meeting Registration

Register today for the DRC Annual Meeting, a two-day conference where the latest research findings on the future of disability policies will be highlighted. Representative from federal agencies will provide insight on directing programs for people with disabilities.  The dates of this conference are August 5-6, 2015. The time is 8am-4:30pm at the National Press Club on 529 14th Street, NW, 13th Floor in Washington, DC. This conference is free and registration closes on July 23rd

2014 Annual Compendium of Disability Statistics and Research-to-Policy Roundtable

The Disability Statistics and Demographics Rehabilitation and Research Training Center (StatsRRTC) announced it will hold the 2014 Annual Compendium of Disability Statistics and Research-to-Policy Roundtable in December. The events will present the latest findings and challenges facing people with disabilities, as well as provide researchers, advocates, and policymakers the opportunity to discuss how evidence-based decision making in service and policy arenas can benefit people with disabilities.

Both events will be held on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2014 in Washington, D.C. The location and venue has not been confirmed, and will available to registrants via email. A live webcast will also be provided. For additional information including registration, please click the link below.

24th Anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act

July 2014 — President Barack Obama encouraged the nation to celebrate the 24th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in a recent Presidential Proclamation honoring the day.  The proclamation acknowledged that while there is still work to be done, the Obama Administration has worked diligently to expand access to community living, healthcare, and employment for people with disabilities.
