February 2014 — The Global Initiative for Inclusive Information and Communications Technology (G3ICT) and Disabled Persons International have released the third edition of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities ICT Accessibility Progress Report. The latest version of the report highlights that digital accessibility is expanding beyond “greater use of technologies by persons with disabilities” to focus on incorporating accessibility within ICT-based policies and practices.

January 2014 — The Presidential Commission on Election Administration released a report providing recommendations to streamline the voting process.  The formation of the Commission follows the 2012 election, where long lines and inaccessibility hindered voters. The Commission’s report highlights that the accommodations made for voters with disabilities or limited English proficiency varies widely with location.

December 2013 — The United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM) released the Report on the Employment of Individuals with Disabilities in the Federal Executive Branch. In 2010, President Obama issues Executive Order 13548, creating a hiring goal of 100,000 people with disabilities into federal service over five years.  The report highlights that in 2012, 219,975 people with disabilities were employed by the Federal government, which has “led to more people with disabilities in Federal service both in real terms and by percentage than at any time in the last 32 years

December 2013 — The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) announced the release of the 2013 Compendium of Disability Statistics, a web-based tool that pools disability statistics published by various federal agencies.  The Compendium is meant to serve as a tool for researchers and policy makers by providing accessible data to help support “decisions related to policy improvements, program administration, service delivery, protection of civil rights and major life activities.”  Findings from the 2013 Compendium highlight that the employment gap between people with and witho

October 2013 — The Global Initiative for Inclusive Information and Communication Technologies (G3ict) released a report highlighting the Corporate Accessibility Technology Office (CATO) at AT&T.  The report notes that although CATO was established in 2012, this is only the most recent effort by AT&T to ensure accessibility for both employees and consumers.
