FCC Extends Comment Deadline: Rulemaking on Closed Captioning of IP-Delivered Video Programming

January 2014 — The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released an Order in the Matter of Closed Captioning of Internet Protocol-Delivered Video Programming: Implementation of the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010 [MB Docket No. 11-154].

FCC Seeks Comment Concerning Closed Captioning in Online Video Clips

December 2013 —The Media Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued a Public Notice [DA 13-2392] seeking comment on rules regarding the closed captioning of IP-delivered video programming.  In the previously issued IP Closed Captioning Order, which was pursuant to the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010 (CVAA), the FCC ruled that closed captioning rules “should initially apply to full-length programming and not to video clips,” and gave the intention of revisiting the ruling’s application to video clips in the future.  The curre

Wireless RERC Awards Funding for Development of Apps

November 25, 2013 — Each year, the Wireless RERC’s App Factory invites experienced organizations or individual developers based in the U.S. to submit proposals for financial support to develop assistive and/or accessibility apps which can be used to enhance the utility and usability of wireless products and services for customers with and without disabilities. Following a call for proposals earlier this year, the App Factory is proud to announce that five apps have been selected for development during the 2013-2014 grant year.  The apps selected for development include:

LifeLabs Design-athon

United Cerebral Palsy’s Life Labs in partnership with Enabled by Design and Futuregov will host the second annual Enabled by Design-athon in Washington, D.C. on November 8-9, 2013.  The event will not only allow participants to hear from “disability, technology and engineering-focused speakers,” but also work in teams to create prototypes of products for people with disabilities that are “more accessible, attractive and easier to use.”
