New NIDRR RERC Proposed Priorities

The National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) has issued a notice of proposed priorities for Rehabilitation Engineering Research Centers (RERC) within the Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects and Centers Program. Specifically NIDRR has proposed two priorities for RERCs including recreational technologies and exercise physiology benefitting individuals with disabilities and rehabilitation robotics.

Consumers Needed for the Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center

The Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center (MSKTC) is seeking consumers to serve on the National Advisory Committee and participate in consumer product testing. The MSKTC is funded by the National Institutes on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR). The Center supports NIDRR’s Model Systems program in the development of user-friendly resources and products that reflect new knowledge about diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and long-term quality of life for individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI), traumatic brain injury (TBI), and burn injury (BURN).

Department of Health and Human Services Creates Administration for Community Living

04.16.12 – The Department of Health and Human Services announced the creation of the Administration for Community Living.  The new administration will bring together the Administration on Aging, the Office on Disability, and the Administration on Developmental Disabilities allowing for “a single agency that supports both cross-cutting initiatives and efforts focused on the unique needs of individual groups.”  Accordingly, the reorganization will allow for coordination of programs that may be intended to serve multiple groups, such as the Lifespan Respite Care program which

New Google Funding Opportunity

04.01.12 – Google Research has issued a notice inviting proposals for the Faculty Research Awards Program.  They are one year awards up to $150,000 for cutting edge research in computer science, engineering and related fields. Google has also asked applicants to categorize their research into one of many research interests including education innovation, human-computer interaction, policy and standards, privacy, security, social networks, and machine learning and data mining.
